How To: Cure, Heal and Prevent Dry, Chapped Lips

How-to cure dry chapped lips
Purpose: Remedy for dry, chapped lips; Learn to protect, restore and soothe lips.
Estimated Time: Immediate relief.
Tools: Advanced Lip Protection
Related Articles: Sun Care, Winter Skin Care
The best way to deal with dry or chapped lips is to avoid severe weather conditions altogether – but obviously – you can’t always do that, so here are some really helpful chapped lip treatment suggestions you can now painlessly crack a smile at:
Hydrate. Lip and skin moisture comes from the inside, out - so make sure you’re drinking enough fluids – this is especially important to consider when you’re in severe weather or dry climates and engaged in outdoor activities.

Humidify. Winter air can be very dry – humidifiers can help keep the air in your home and office moist and your lips (and nose) moisturized.

Block. Don’t just use any old moisturizing lip balm to prevent chapped lips, use one with a built-in sunscreen. Our Advanced Lip Protection locks in moisture, but with its SPF of 30, it protects your lips from harmful ultraviolet rays, too.

Protect. Before going out—and repeatedly while you're out—cover your lips with a moisturizing, beeswax-enriched lip balm. Reapply each time you eat, drink or wipe your lips.

Resist. Deny your urge to lick – licking further aggravates dry or chapped lips and can make them become severely chapped. When you lick your lips without lip balm, moisture is evaporated, so the sensation of dryness is intensified and saliva contains digestive enzymes that dry chapped lips even more.
Nourish. Make sure you’re getting enough multi-vitamins, especially b-complex and iron, as have been found to cause lips to chap.

Heal. Choose a healing lip balm with such nourishing and antiseptic extracts as Vitamin E, Comfrey, Rosemary, olive oil and soy to prevent dry, chapped lips.
Tips: If you’re desperate in the middle of the wilderness or ocean and no one’s looking - and you don’t have a high quality lip balm like the Advanced Lip Protection handy - use the natural oils from the side of your nose and rub it on your lips. We won’t tell.
