Besides melting icebergs and endangering polar bears, pollution and ozone depletion is stripping your youth away – but don't worry, we can help.

How does pollution harm skin? "Free radicals," or unstable oxygen molecules, impede healthy skin cell functioning and deplete collagen stores. Collagen is the fibrous protein mesh that gives skin its elasticity, tensile strength and youthful resiliency. When deprived of it, your face crumbles - skin slackens as age lines and wrinkles appear. Antioxidants are scientifically proven to prevent and protect against free radical damage. To help repair aging skin from free radical damage, consider using an anti-aging cream with antioxidants and complementing it with an antioxidant nutritional supplement. Containing some of the most powerful antioxidants in existence, MenScience's protective Anti-Aging Formula helps neutralize free radical damage to diminish the visible signs of aging and improve overall skin quality.

Airborne microscopic pollutants can clog your pores, which can affect both your skin's health and its appearance. To remove the pollutants and impurities that accumulate on skin throughout the day, use a gentle daily cleanser with glycolic and salicylic acid. Another excellent option is to use an exfoliating tonic as it can clear pores of environmental pollutants while removing dead skin cells and organic debris.

Caused by exposure to UVA or UVB (ultraviolet) light, photo aging is the primary reason skin ages. Photo aging processes include abnormal elastin regrowth, which is responsible for age lines, wrinkles and sun spots. Aptly named, elastin allows bodily tissues to resume their shape after stretching or contracting. To protect against sun damage, regularly wear a sunblock that contains an SPF of 30 and shields skin from both UVA and UVB rays. Sunblocks fortified with full-spectrum sunscreen ingredients (such as titanium dioxide) repel ultraviolet rays and deflect heat without irritating skin. Don't forget your lips, they're also affected by photoaging, so be sure to use a lip balm with an SPF of 15 or higher.

MILLIONS OF MEN aren't getting enough antioxidants in their diets. According to the Food and Drug Administration, men should have at least 5 servings of antioxidant rich foods each day. Besides helping protect the body from the visible signs of the aging process (such as skin, lines, wrinkles and a dry complexion), antioxidants have also been linked to increased immunity, cancer prevention, nervous system improvements, decreases in cholesterol levels, lower blood pressure and reducing the risk of heart attacks and strokes. The best sources of Vitamin A, C and other antioxidants are brightly colored fruits and vegetables, but most men are not getting nearly enough of these. Although the produce isn't in short supply, their antioxidant content is - a situation that's exacerbated by modern production and commercial practices. While already grown in polluted, vitamin-depleted soils, commercial convenience strips antioxidant-rich foods of their vitamins during processing and shipment. Very often during food processing, skins and outer leaves are removed to eliminate dirt and pollutants. The regrettable side-effect? Many of the vitamins, antioxidants and nutrients are lost. If you’re like millions of men and not getting enough antioxidants, consider taking a broad spectrum nutritional supplement with both the traditional Vitamins A, C, E and the scarce, yet extremely powerful biofavonoids, catechins and idebenone antioxidants.

With recent alarm over the mercury levels, many men are neglecting to eat fish. A hugely important part of a healthy diet, fish offer a lean, low-calorie source of protein that is rich in heart-healthy Omega-3 fatty acids. The American Heart Association recommends that men consume foods rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, like fatty fish, at least twice a week. Some men opt for the farm-raised variety – but there's a caveat. Fish obtain heart healthy Omega-3 fatty acids from algae, so farmed fish aren't getting the necessary amounts. Worse, farmed fish are given harmful antibiotics, colorants and may even be submitted to pesticides and other pollutants. For men wanting Omega-3 fatty acids from a pure source (that have been distilled of hazardous PCB, toxins and mercury particles) MenScience offers a pharmaceutical-grade Omega-3 nutritional supplement (which offers the highest levels of EPA/DHA available).

If your tax preparations were nearly as grueling as mine, you'll need a MenScience I.R.S. (Incredibly Revitalizing Skincare) Day to recover from the IRS Tax Day. Stress triggers a "fight-or-flight" response in the body, resulting in a reduced flow of oxygen and blood flow. This has been found to undermine digestion, which hinders the absorption of nutrients and minerals. At best, vitamin deprived skin will appear dull, dehydrated and lifeless; at worst, skin disorders like acne, eczema and psoriasis may be aggravated.

• Subscribing to the adage, "You are what you eat," will revitalize skin from within. Antioxidant rich fruits and vegetables, whole grains and high-protein lentils or legumes are excellent, and The American Heart Association recommends heart-healthy foods that are rich in Omega 3, including raw seeds and nuts, fish and some vegetable oils, too. To make sure you're getting enough antioxidant and Omega 3 nourishment, consider a nutritional supplement.

• To relieve stress and help rejuvenate your skin's appearance, take a long, steamy bath – it's been used as skin therapy for thousands of years. As you wash away your worries, clean and exfoliate to cleanse and tone for soft, supple skin.

• Immediately after bathing, when your skin's most receptive, massage on an oil-free moisturizer to lock in the moisture and soothe skin (one with hypermoisturizing ingredients is best).

• Shave in the bath and shower (the energy and dollar-efficient way) with a protective lubricating formula. If your skin is easily aggravated with stress, use a post-shave treatment with anti-inflammatory ingredients to accelerate healing, preventing infection and ingrown hairs as it soothes.

• Use a specially-formulated eye cream; not only will it protect, hydrate and repair your delicate eye skin, it can help you look refreshed and reinvigorated – without dark undereye circles.

• A relaxing massage will do wonders to relieve stress related muscle tension, tightness and pain. Your whole body will feel relaxed and refreshed – and your skin will look better, too.

According to a UC Berkeley study, if you live in a big city and have bad skin, it's probably caused by air pollution. The ozone rapidly strips the uppermost skin layer of its protective coating, the "stratum corneum." To see yours, apply a strip of tape to the skin; when you remove the tape, a filmy residue should be left behind.

If you're living in one of Forbes "top ten most polluted cities in America," your protective film gets stripped away. California has 60% of the top 10 most polluted cities: LA, Bakersfield, Fresno-Madera, Visalia-Porterville, Merced and Sacramento - Texas has 20% with Houston and Dallas/Fort Worth. Surrounding California counties are equally as bad. The remaining 10% are split between New York, NY (including Newark, NJ and Bridgeport, CT) and Philadelphia, PA (Camden, NJ and Vineland, NJ). Ur-ea what? Urea initiated the study of organic chemistry. In 1828, Friedrich Wöhler had a historical "oops" moment. Accidently creating Urea – an organic compound artificially made from inorganic materials –Wöhler discredited the theory that living organisms' chemicals differ from inanimate matter. Urea (aka carbamide) is an organic moisturizing compound that attracts and retains water. In addition to protecting skin with its buffering and anti-inflammatory capabilities, it also helps skin absorb other ingredients. Which ingredients are best for your skin? Click here.
