Preventing Hair Loss

The 5 Diet Changes That May Help You Keep Your Hair                                     Printable Version

BY AGE 50, MORE THAN 50% of men experience significant hair loss. If you are worried about the number of hairs you’re finding near the drain, you are not alone. And even if you’re not losing your hair, as you age your hair often will become thinner and more delicate. Both men and women can have a genetic predisposition, (called androgenetic alopecia) to hair loss. on-genetic reasons also result in hair loss…stress, poor diet, and emotional issues can cause your hair to fall out.

Whatever the reason for your loss, here are a few quick changes you can make to protect the hair you have and keep it healthy and strong:

    1. Lose Atkins.
Diets that are too high in fat and overload on protein can damage the kidneys and create acidic blood. Avoid consuming excessive amounts of animal fats, animal proteins, and salt. This may help delay hair loss in men prone to male pattern baldness. With that said….

    2. Eat enough protein.
Hair is mostly made up of protein, so it’s important to eat enough daily in order to keep it strong. According to the FDA men should eat about 50 grams per day with a diet that includes fish, eggs, nuts, chicken, wheat germ, and other high-quality proteins.

    3. Benefit from silica.
The body uses silica to help it absorb vitamins and minerals. Without enough of it, the body can’t absorb the good vitamins and minerals that we take in – which means there’s little benefit from the good things you’ve eaten. Eat your dose of silica through fresh veggies like bean sprouts, cucumbers, red and green peppers, and potatoes.

    4. Get your vitamins.
Good hair requires a diet rich in vitamins. Vitamin B-6 is essential, and occurs naturally in fish, chickpeas, and beef. Vitamin E makes hair healthy-looking by keeping it shiny and vibrant. Get it by eating avocados, nuts, seeds, and olive oil. Vitamin C is vital to the absorption of iron in the body. Fresh fruit like oranges, strawberries and lemons contain lots of Vitamin C. If you want to supplement your vitamin and antioxidant intake consider taking an antioxidant formula supplement.

    5. Eat your minerals.
      Iron
plays a major role in manufacturing hemoglobin, the part of the blood that carries oxygen to your body’s organs and tissues. When your hemoglobin is at a healthy level, oxygen is properly dispersed and your scalp is getting a good flow of blood, which will stimulate and promote hair growth. (A hot oil hair and scalp massage also stimulates the skin on the head and helps with blood flow.) Get iron through red meat, eggs, leafy green vegetables, dates, liver, and raisins. Copper & Zinc may affect the levels of androgens, the hormones believed to be involved in some forms of genetic hair loss. Zinc also helps prevent scalp acne. You can increase your zinc intake by eating more red meat, poultry, seafood, nuts and beans. Zinc and copper have a proportional relationship in optimal health, so don’t dramatically increase one without the other to avoid deficiencies. A well-balance diet is essential. A healthy scalp and hair is a sign of good overall health.

    Hair Styling Matters

The hair styling product that you use is a key component to preventing hair loss. Hair Styling Pomade provides structure, control and strong-hold for your hair without stiffness or residues and it's ideal for a wide variety of styles. Completely clean matte finish makes the hair look natural and full of life. Washes off completely with water and it's infused with natural ingredients to protect and strengthen hair.
