Will your acne products cause irritations?

Because of the high concentration of Benzoyl Peroxide in some of our acne products, it may take some time for skin to get used to the treatment. Once skin has become accustomed to the treatment, irritation, redness or dryness usually disappears.

Should I apply sun protection when using your acne products?

Because most of our acne treatment products contain Benzoyl Peroxide, which has powerful antibacterial and exfoliating qualities, skin may become more sensitive to sun exposure. We recommend you use TiO2 Sunblock SPF 30 when going outside to avoid irritation and prevent darkening of acne scars and marks.

What is the difference between your acne treatment products?

Each one of our acne treatment products is dermatologically designed to help you with specific acne needs. To learn the properties of each acne product, please read the MenScience Acne Product Comparison Chart.

Do your acne products containg Benzoyl Peroxide?

Yes. Benzoyl Peroxide is an antibacterial ingredient prescribed by dermatologists as the preferred topical medicine for safe treatment for acne. It clears acne-causing bacteria on the surface, absorbs excessive oils and clear pores while promoting greater cell exfoliation and renewal.

How soon can I start seeing results with your acne products?

Results depend on many different factors; skin type, type of acne, frequency of product use, etc. Generally acne sufferers start seeing results after 3 weeks if using MenScience Acne Treatment Products, however, you may see results sooner.

Will your acne products make my skin more oily/dry?

During acne treatment, skin often seems to take a turn for the worse before it begins getting better. This is due in part to the need to become accustomed to a treatment and the exfoliating process of shedding dead skin cells. The important thing is to keep usage regular. If, however, you are experiencing excessive dryness or oiliness, you should reduce the usage of the acne treatment products. Also, make sure that you are only using the acne products on affected areas and not rubbing it in all over your face.

Is acne caused by eating greasy foods?

Contrary to popular belief, there is very little scientific evidence to back up this claim. However, you should aim to eat a balanced diet full of vitamins from fruits and vegetables, and drink plenty of water for overall well-being.

Will popping blemishes help acne go away faster?

Popping pimples may seem to reduce their size, but it can actually aggravate blemishes by spreading bacteria, causing them to take longer to heal. Not only that, but popping or picking at pimples causes scars and dark spots to form.

How often should I wash my face?

Most acne sufferers will not need to cleanse their faces more than twice a day, but if you have oily skin or your skin accumulates a lot of impurities from work or sports, you can wash several times a day. However, this can cause your skin to produce more oil to make up for the moisture being washed away. We recommend using a gentle liquid acne cleanser that contains Salicylic Acid and Tea Tree extract, like Daily Face Wash.

Does tanning clear-up acne?

No. When you tan, dead cells build up on your skin’s surface. This can often cause your pores to look tighter and the surface to look smoother. Tanning also masks redness caused by acne. However, once the tan disappears, you’ll be left with greater outbreaks and darker acne scars and marks. Protect skin exposed to direct sunlight by regularly applying TiO2 Sunblock SPF 30 (especially if using a treatment containing Benzoyl Peroxide).

Why is Benzoyl Peroxide the most effective ingredients for acne treatment?

Benzoyl Peroxide is an antibacterial ingredient prescribed by dermatologists as the preferred topical medicine for safe treatment for acne. It clears acne-causing bacteria on the surface, absorbs excessive oils and clear pores, while promoting greater cell exfoliation and renewal.

Are Glycolic, Salicylic and Malic Acids effective ingredients for acne treatment?

Yes. Glycolic, Salicylic and Malic Acids work very effectively to exfoliate dead skin cells and clear pores. By reducing pore blockage, acne has less of a chance to form and breakouts are reduced.

Which is the best product for acne prone skin?

There are many acne products with specific benefits. In general, we recommend that acne sufferers keep skin clean by washing with Daily Face Wash twice a day, once in the morning and once at night. Apply Acne Spot Repair to eliminate existing blemishes. Once blemishes have been controlled, regularly use Acne Therapy Lotion to prevent future outbreaks. Only use products that are non-irritating and noncomedogenic. Do not pick at or pop blemishes, and twice a week, use Microfine Face Scrub to exfoliate skin and unclog pores.

Should I use a moisturizer if I have oily, acne prone skin?

Definitely. It's important to make up for the moisture washed away by skin cleansers and some acne ingredients. We highly recommend using an ultralight, oil-free facil moisturizer such as Advanced Face Lotion to help renew and restore your complexion while nurturing and protecting it.

How can I get rid of the dark spots left by acne blemishes?

These dark spots are called hyperpigmentation and are the result of healed acne blemishes. This is a common situation with acne skin, and causes it to look discolored and it takes 2-4 weeks to brighten. In some cases, it may require up to 6 months for maximum effects. We recommend using Pigmentation Repair Formula to help fade unwanted pigmentation. This unique blend of dermatological ingredients help control abnormal pigment production and eliminates superficial darkened cells.
